Retargeting should demonstrate to marketers how customers are engaging—or not—with their ads. mediaFORGE has developed a unique platform that tracks post-engagement conversions, providing retailers with increased visibility and improved attribution.

The Problem

Performance-based retargeting campaigns that employ post-impression/view-based (i.e., “view-thru”) attribution models do not create incremental lift for advertisers—even worse, retargeting firms often force advertisers to pay for impressions without providing transparency or proof of real value for their clients. The logic is simple… the traditional view through metric do not prove that a user saw an ad. Therefore, post-impression conversions are not a true measurement of efficacy.

“View-thru” fails as a conversion metric. The view-based model gives incentive to the third party networks to simply flag/cookie everyone as having been served an ad. Even worse: this objective may encourage an unfavorable media-buying philosophy in which networks/vendors buy sub-premium inventory to reach view-through targets. When users return and convert, networks/vendors can falsely claim to have contributed to purchases. mediaFORGE offers a solution to help advertisers avoid these risks altogether by maintaining that advertisers should never pay for post-impression/view-based conversions.

The Solution

mediaFORGE provides an alternative for advertisers unsatisfied with post-impression attribution. Like many of our competitors, we buy retargeted impressions from networks/publishers/exchanges to communicate with the site/cart abandoners of our clients. We capture the attention of these abandoners through our interactive, dynamic and personalized advertising product. We call it re-engagement.

How Does It Work?

mediaFORGE has spent years developing an industry-leading widget-ad platform. Our proprietary widget-ads provide a distinct level of interaction, containing website-like functionality within a banner ad. This includes product searches, access to video content, viral distribution into social media environments and additional interactivity that encourages users to engage with the ads. We then measure this engagement and provide advertisers with invaluable information about subsequent post-engagement conversions. For mediaFORGE, “post-engagement” is a substitute for “view-thru”.

Our proprietary tracking system allows user interaction/engagement data to be tied to specific conversions—meaning that you know where your results are coming from and why. We attach viewer data to anonymous User IDs and build a behavioral profile based on the interaction and conversion data gathered. This data is used to: 1) understand how viewers are interacting and responding to brand content and offers; 2) retarget cart/site abandoners with relevant content; and 3) personalize messaging during campaigns.

Why Is It Different?

The foundation of our competitive differentiation is a new metric for accurately attributing revenue to ad influence called “post-engagement”. Post-engagement conversions are defined as purchases made by a user who previously engaged (e.g., watched a video, searched for product, browsed cart items, filled out a form, embedded a widget, etc.) with a mediaFORGE ad. In contrast to view-through, post-engagement revenue is attributable to banner ads that actually generated interactions—rather than being passively viewed or loaded on a page. mediaFORGE analytics offer defensible proof of this “re-engagement” by providing access to the specific interaction data for each post-engagement conversion. Our unique model allows advertisers to reach retargeted viewers with a communication tool more likely to elicit their engagement and ultimate response—all without financial or contractual risk.
